Strange But True

So I did a post on Strange But True Facts back when I first started blogging, and here I am for a second edition. Welcome to Strange But True Facts: About Me Edition. Yup, since there are definitely some newer faces around here, I figured I'd let you all in on all sorts of weird stuff about me.

ONE. I hate lots of little circles all close together. It's a real thing I swear, and my Mom can't stand looking at them either. It's a fear called trypophobia. I can't even Google this to show you a picture of what I'm talking about because it is super gross and I literally will throw up (I'm not even kidding).

TWO. I must wear socks to bed. I simply cannot fall asleep if I'm barefoot. I know most people are the opposite, but it weirds me out to even think of sleeping without socks, you freaks! I feel like someone is going to reach up from under the bed and touch my foot or something. Probably because when I was a kid my Mom hid under my bed once at least 3 times to scare the crap out of me. Thank you Mom.

Yup this was pretty much my mom, minus the clown disguise

THREE. I’m super awkward at small talk. Like, I can't shut up and just let the awkwardness of a situation wash over us, I have to fill it up with words, usually super strange ones or with unnecessary detail.

Example #1: My first day of work, a secretary asked me if I wanted coffee. Well, I didn't want to tell her that if I drink coffee in the morning it upsets my stomach (at least I didn't say that), so instead of just saying "No thank you" like a normal human being, I stuttered, "Umm, no, I usually just drink… water." WHAT? That is not even true, I don't even know why I would say that. She just stared at me and was like "alriiight."

Example #2: Family friend walks up to me at church: "Hey Jess, congrats on passing the bar. Super exciting!" Me: "Thanks!... *Silence*...I am so happy and super excited about it. I got my application for the bar the day after I found I passed the bar exam so sent it in my application 2 days after that and I had to get it notarized and signed by an attorney who motions for my admission and pay $100 more on top of everything else they made us pay but I already got my bar card back and it's super flimsy and you'd think it'd be a little more substantial right but oh well I don't think they expect it to last long because it expires in July and then they will mail me a new one and...." *Blank Stare* Him: "Yes, interesting, oh look church is starting..." Blahh why can't I just STOP TALKING!

FOUR. I get embarrassed if I go to the mailbox and there’s no mail in it. Like I look around and hope no one is watching and judging me for being an unpopular loser who gets no mail.

FIVE
. I am a compulsive list maker, and I rewrite them multiple times a day, even if only one thing got crossed off.

SIX. I wear my retainer at least 3-4 nights a week. I do NOT need my gap teeth coming back that I sported until I finally lost all my baby teeth and got braces from 8th-10th grade. I know it wants to come back and it tries hard so I will wear my retainer until im 85 if I have to!

Man, I sound super fun, want to sit with me? haha please tell me some strange facts about you so I don't feel like the only weirdo in blogland!

  1. I wear socks to bed too!

And I wear my retainer very infrequently even though I had a huge gap in the middle of my two front big teeth. I should probably have the feat you do and do my teeth some favors.

  2. ewww ewww ewww I never knew there was a name for that phobia but it's super gross. I cant. Especially if it's on a living creature I want to vomit.

  3. Um hate socks in bed...but I do have to have my feet covered up with a blanket for the same reason....someone creeping under my bed. So weird.

  5. OMG. I'm going to have nightmares forever over the picture of the clown under the bed. My husband does the sock thing to bed. I HATE IT. Like, when his feet touch mine? Drives me nuts and I cringe. I'm the same way about mail..haha. Good to know I'm not the only one.

  6. Holy shit - it's a wonder you can sleep at all!

  7. Ok the circle thing is a little weird, but so interesting.

Does Brian sleep with socks on too or do you just leave him to get his foot grabbed?

  8. Oh girl I word vomit too. I just HAVE to fill the silence and offer too much info. And I turn red. It's really fun to meet strangers!

  9. Up until I was like 18 I had to wear socks to bed, now I can't fall asleep if I have socks on. I have to had the volume turned to an even number, odd numbers drive me mad!

  10. Lol, I just love you.

I'm the same way with mail! I feel a sense of defeat if I check it and nothing is there. It's like a walk of shame back to the house.

I had a gap between my teeth too! I'm supposed to wear retainers every night but I definitely don't because my wisdom teeth made them fit all funny, so a teeny tiny space has formed but it's NOTHING compared to what it used to be.

The circle thing is interesting. I'm going to have to google that.

  11. Oh damn now I googled the circle thing and it was the worst decision I ever made. HORRIBLE.

  12. I compulsively check the mail. Like, every single time I open my front door, I check the mailbox. Even on Sundays... even when I've already gotten the mail for the day out of the box... Always. I can't help it.

  13. Haha those are really strange quirks. Although, I'm the same with the lists thing. I also HAVE to cross out everything in my planner or it bothers me. So I have two methods of crossing things out (things that got done get crossed out with a highlighter, things that I never did get crossed out with a pen). I just can't stand seeing things not crossed out on a list. It's like I see the words mocking me, reminding me "you never did thisssss!" lol.

  14. I stink at small talk too. I also jabber on and sometimes say alarming things.

  15. I googled trypophobia and now I hate you. OHMYGOD that is completely hideous.

Also I hate checking an empty mailbox and it happens to me all the time!

  16. AHHHHHHHHHHH I googled that circle thing and dear goodness I cant un-see what I just seen! Make it go away!!!!!

I am bad at word vomit during silence too. Like real bad.

  17. These quirks really aren't too bad, I laughed a lot while reading this, haha. I have a ton of quirks & weird things about me.
The first one that comes to mind is that to me the thought of getting a massage scares me to death and makes me so uncomfortable. The idea of paying a stranger to give a massage is completely insane to me and I don't understand how anyone would not feel extremely violated, especially if they are in a relationship with someone else. When it's someone you love intimately, it's different.

I'm terrified of escalaters and bees. Yes, I said escalaters.

I always want more friends and human contact because I know very few people. But I hardly ever talk to anyone because I'm so introverted and shy. Plus, none of my family lives around me, and the family member I was closest to recently passed away. As a result, the only person I am able to talk to on a daily basis is my fiance. I know this probably makes me sound like a loser.

My fiance and I have been living independently on our own for 8 months now, and neither one of us have a car, license, or even know how to drive. Some people wonder how we do it. We are happy and survive fine, it's just kind of inconvienient. This, too, may or may not make me look like a loser.

I am against the color red. I just don't like it. I will NOT eat anything red. This is the only color I have a problem with.

  18. I can only wear socks to sleep if it's super cold in the room. Otherwise my feet sweat hardcore. haha

The mailbox thing, I feel you girl. I always feel like I need to make some gesture like "what? I could have sworn I saw the mailguy" so people don't think I'm lame...

  19. LOL I'm fairly awkward with small talk too!

    ReplyDelete
  20. First of all, thanks for the fucking nightmares, bitch! bahahah!
I wear my retainer most nights, too. A snaggle tooth was NOT cute on me!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ugh!!! Now I will check under my bed 400 times tonight!! Thanks!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am horrrrrible at small talk too! Although instead of talking too much I'll just stand awkwardly and sometimes a "yeah......." will come out of my mouth.

  23. ugh trypophobia photos make me so nauseous. i just can't. i'm most terrified of spiders though. i've actually cried because i've been so scared. it's embarrassing but true.

  25. lol wow your mom is mean! It's funny now but even that picture will probably haunt me later! Good for you for wearing your retainer! My sister never did and her teeth went back to what they were before the braces. I'm terrible at small talk or any kind of talk so I feel you. I usually just mumble something and walk away leaving the person to think i'm a stuck up bitch :(

  26. If I wear socks to bed they are always in the floor the next morning and I never remember taking them off! Oh gosh and I am a compulsive list maker too! Like non-stop! Sometimes I even right things down after they've been done just so I can cross them off! OCD much?
