TGIF!

I hope you all are enjoying your Friday!! Brian and I are looking forward to a cookout we're hosting with friends tomorrow! Not much to say today, so I'll leave you with this quote that I find to be so true.

Have a great Labor Day weekend! (read the book, don't watch the movie!). Linking up with Whitney .

Dachshund Crazy

So it's no secret that I am dachshund obsessed. I have 2 of my own right now, 3-year old brothers named Hansel and Schnitzel. I got them the summer before law school started and they are my little buddies and the best ever! They are snugglers and so sweet and adorable! Here are some of their puppy pics:

I grew up with a dachshund named Guava and I loved her so much! My parents got her as a wedding present from a friend of my Mom's. My mom was young (just turned 19!) and she went to the mall with her friends who decided they wanted to give her a dachshund as a wedding gift. So they ended up contacting a breeder and gave her Guava! I haven't had a chance to pull out my parents' photo albums to find some pictures of her, but I loved drawing wonderful pictures of her when I was a kid, as you can see! (don't mind the baby apparently crawling behind me as I'm walking her, haha!!)

I am not the only one who loves dachshunds, as my parents have 2 right now, Snickers and Snoopy. They also have a lab named Kaboo.

My cousin has two dachshunds who are actually littermates of Snoopy's, Franklin and Linus. Here they are along with my 2 and my mom's 2!

My mom grew up with lots of dachshunds too, and had 3 when she was a kid. Here she is with a neighbor's dachshund when she was little.

So yup, we are a dachshund family. But we aren't the only ones. Apparently Princess Diana liked them. Here she is with an English cream piebald colored dachshund (they come in lots of colors!).

I'm pretty sure this pic is photoshopped, but I like to think it's real and assume that old Abe had a dachshund too.

Lots of other people have dachshunds, too-- Just check out Pinterest. Here are a few more just to prove my point: Picasso, Einstein (!!!), the family from Bewitched (ahh I love that show!), and even the Fergie Ferg.

Dachshunds even save lives. Read this story about a dachshund in Scotland who saved his owner's life from a bear!! Dachshunds are awesome and I am dachshund crazy! If you are ever considering getting a dachshund and have any questions, definitely feel free to ask me!

On not going back to school..

So this is the first year since I was 4 years old that I have not geared up and gone back to school. That's 21 "first days of school," people!

That's me up front with the penguin pinned on my green plaid dress on my first day of Kindergarten, 1993.

I went straight from high school to college, and straight from college to law school. I'm not really sure how I feel about being done with school For.Evvv.Verrr (name the movie, get 100 life points), but it's definitely weird. I mean, I miss buying highlighters and ordering textbooks and going back-to-school shopping, but I definitely won't miss homework and getting cold-called on in classes in law school.

I feel like I missed summer break this year, because I spent most of the summer studying 10+ hours per day for the bar exam. Now I am finally getting to enjoy summer and it is winding down and most everybody is back at school already. I am trying to enjoy my time before I am employed, since I will never get a summer break like this again. It is truly hard to just relax. I have never had literally NOTHING to do. There has always been something looming, whether it be homework or an internship or Moot Court stuff or ordering textbooks or writing briefs. I have always done super well in school and it has always been a major part of my life. How will I define myself when there are no grades to determine how I am measuring up in life? I guess this is something I will figure out as a move forward in life and into a career, and distance myself from the life of constant education to which I have been accustomed. This video about grad school is pretty hilarious (and NSFW!), you should watch it!

6 things

If you follow me on the twits, you know I've decided it's time to get my butt in shape. Well, I think my arms may have fallen off, so how I am typing this I have no clue. Anyways, Kelli over at She Crab Soup tagged me in this 6 things you should know about me post, and since 6 is my favorite number, I decided I should give it a shot (plus I love these kinds of posts getting to know other bloggers!)

One. Where do you see yourself in 5 yearsMarried to my Bri guy. Owning a house with a fenced in yard for the dogs, possibly with another dog (Brian wants a black lab, I want a chocolate lab or another dachshund, duh!). Hopefully working at an awesome attorney job.

Two. If you have 3 wishes what would they be
  • To eat whatever I want and not gain a pound!
  • A cure for cancer, diabetes, and all other terrible diseases.
  • For people to care about the environment. We only have one planet, that's all I am going to say about that (okay I lied. Stop throwing your cigarette butts on the ground people!)

Three. What is something you thought you would never do or accomplish but have? When I started law school, I seriously wanted to quit during the first few weeks. I hate hate hated it. I wouldn't have been nearly the only one (in fact, I think at least 30-some people dropped out before the first semester was over!) Some of the professors were scary and the whole first year is set up to weed out the people who can't hack it and intimidate you. I am so glad I stuck it out though and did really well. I know I'd regret it if I hadn't.

Four. What blogs are you loving right now that have under 200 followers?

Five. If you could only take one thing to an uninhabited environment what would you take (think Naked and Afraid)? My phone, because then I could call someone to come pick me up! I hate camping and that sort of thing, so staying there and sticking it out would not be an option.

Six. Tell us something we don't know about you. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life.

If you want to participate, consider yourself tagged! I am too lazy to make up my own questions, so just pick 6 of these :-)

1. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
2. If you have 3 wishes what would they be?
3. What is something you thought you would never do or accomplish but have?
4. What blogs are you loving right now that have under 200 followers?
5. What is your best advice you have received about blogging?
6. If you could only take one thing to an uninhabited environment what would you take (think Naked and Afraid)?
7. Who is the most influential person in your life?
8. Tell us something we don't know about you.
9. If you could open your own business what kind of good or service would you provide?  What would you business be like?

Birthday Weekend Recap

I had such a great birthday and birthday weekend, I miss it already. On Friday, I went to brunch with my parents at this awesome bistro we love, got my nails done, got my free Starbucks, then later we went over my parents house for dinner, cake, and presents (I pretty much got everything on my list and more!). I love birthdays and everyone went so out of their way to make my day great, from the birthday cake, brunch, balloons, and presents, to dinner and a great night. I am truly blessed to have a wonderful family and Brian.

The middle picture on the bottom shows my 2 dachshunds and my parents 2 dachshunds all peeking through the deck rungs at my parents' house.

On Saturday, Brian and I went down to the Inner Harbor. We shopped at Anthropologie, ate a yummy lunch at Cheesecake Factory (including mac and cheese balls and my favorite mango key lime cheesecake), then went to an Os game (they lost but it was awesome and we had great seats!).

Yesterday we spent the day at the pool (and the Os apparently crushed the As.. maybe we are bad luck??). Did I mention I love birthday weekends? Thanks to everyone who made it great! :-)

"You say it's your birthday..

..it's my birthday, too, yea!" Yup, 25 years ago today (Aug 23) I was born. We have lots of awesome plans this weekend, including heading to the Inner Harbor tomorrow for some Cheesecake Factory, Anthropologie shopping, and an afternoon Oriole's game. I'm off to brunch with my parents this morning, then getting my nails done. Check back on Monday for the recap! For your viewing pleasure, here are some oldies but goodies of me from previous birthdays.

A few weeks before I was born (my mom was 20 here!)

A few days after I was born

Mom and Grandmom at my 1st Birthday party

2nd birthday.. Loving the Sesame Street (my brat cousin Ryan probably blew out my candles for me.. he was such a bully!)

The ultimate awkward family birthday photo: Kaylee is picking her nose, Savanna is screaming, and I am obviously mad about something.

PopPop and me on my ninth birthday. I think this was the year I got the Tamagotchi.. woop! Also, I was obvi a big fan of the paper crown.

Dad and me on my 21st birthday.

Now, I'm going to leave you with a birthday song for #backthatazzupfriday with Whitney (sorry, grooveshark didn't have the real Beatles version, only the tribute band). Have a great weekend!

"Like being in love, she said, for the first time"

Hi all! I'm part of a wedding guest post over at Love, Fun, and Football today, so go check it out! If you're here from Erin's blog, hey, thanks for stopping by!! Today I thought I'd do another post getting to know me better since there are some newer faces around here, and I found this "Firsts" questionnaire a few weeks ago and thought it looked cute, so here goes! I feel like I'm back in high school on MySpace :-)

1) What was your first tweet? Sept 29, 2009: "getting excited to visit WVU law school this weekend!!" I didn't end up going to that particular school; I decided I wanted to go to a PA law school. Also, I wrote that tweet and 2 others then didn't come back to Twitter for 2 years lol

2) What was your first blog post? It was about blogging. And cookies, lol.

3) Who was the first blog you subscribed to? I think this girl I used to work with, like 5 years ago.

4) What was your first facebook profile picture? This nice selfie in my freshman year college dorm room, wearing the free t-shirt they gave out at basketball games haha (sorry I can't make it bigger, the quality of the pic is bad)

5) Do you still talk to your first love? Yes, considering he is my boyfriend Brian. Here's our first picture together (and here's our story).

6) What was your first alcoholic drink? Wellll my first drink on my 21st bday is in the picture below. It was a lemon drop I think?

7) What was your first job? Brand rep at the LTD2 baby (Limited Too for those not in the know). I was 16 and I think I made $5.40 an hour; I thought I was rollin in it. We spent our time getting creepy security guards to buy us ice cream and telling moms that no, I don't think your daughter is too fat to wear those shorts (yes, that happened. Too often).

8) What was your first car? My first car I drove around was a 2000 Chevy Lumina (stylin!). I also got to drive the minivan on occasion, woot woot (2 different people hit me in that thing, I was an accident magnet). My first car I bought with my own money was a 2005 Saturn Vue. She was a beauty. I am going to do a sad post about how I lost her one of these days.

9)Who was the first person who text you today? My mom.

10) Who was the first person you thought of this morning? Brian.

11) Who was your first grade teacher? Ms. Wernig (can you find me?)

12) Where did you go on your first ride in a an airplane? My first time was just this past March to the Dominican Republic. I've been to 27 states but we did all our traveling by driving as a kid (it's not cheap to fly a family of 8!).

13) Who was your first best friend and do you still talk? Danielle. And sadly no. Hmm so I probably headbutted her after that first picture was taken (I'm wearing the bonnet)-- I didn't treat her very nicely when I was younger, I had jealousy issues haha; Also, my hair looks almost as crazy as the girl's hair on my shirt in the second pic.

14) Where was your first sleepover? I'm sure it was at Danielle's.

15) What was the first thing you did this morning? Go to the bathroom.

16) What was the first concert you went to? Aaron Carter oh snap. I even had the Aaron Carter doll. I thought it'd be worth something one day-- I just checked on Ebay, woop it's up to $22. "Iiiii Want Candy" (no, I wasn't 18 when I went to his concert, but I obviously wanted candy in this pic).

17) What was your first broken bone? Pinky toe. Darn chairs.

18) What was your first piercing? My ears at the mall when I was 5. I screamed like a banshee and some nice employee at Friendly's heard and brought me over a big ice cream cone filled with Reese's Pieces.

19) What was the first foreign country you went to? Dominican Republic baby.

20) What was the first movie you remember seeing? In theaters, I think Fern Gully, and I talked through the entire movie apparently, whoops!

21) When was your first detention? Never.

22) Who was your first roommate? This girl named Ashley my freshman year of college. She talked to her parents on the phone all day everyday, and asked them permission to go anywhere and do anything, including what to wear. She wanted to know where I was at all times, and got mad if I went to dinner without her. It didn't work out, and she moved home 2nd semester and I got my own room!!

23) What was the first sport you were involved in? Soccer, definitely. (Look at my Grandmom in her cute orange hat aww; the 2nd pic is senior year of high school-- I'm in the middle row, 3rd from left)

24) What is the first thing you do when you get home? Pet the dogs.

25) When was your first kiss? 9th grade (it was gross, enough said)

Go check out some of my most embarrassing moments or my birthday wishlist (there's lots of awesome Fall stuff on there!). Thanks for stopping by!
