How I Know I'm Getting Old

So I spent the weekend feeling pretty crappy with some sort of flu thing. So instead of recapping my boring weekend, I have something else to say: I'm getting old. Wanna know how I know? Welp, at the ripe old age of 25, I can't drink sugary drinks anymore. Nope, no more multiple Strawberry-Mango Margaritas, Sangrias, or Malibu Baybreezes, because if I have 2 or more, BAM! headache until like 3pm the next day. I'm not kidding. And I am completely thrown for a loop because I never ever ever used to get headaches or hangovers even if I had five lots of sugary, fruity drinks. I don't drink very often or to excess, but boo, this stinks (it's probably for the best though because fruity drinks=LOTS of calories).

I want this!

I think I need to change my ways and so I need your help. What are your favorite low sugar drinks that still taste good (no gin please, that ish is like drinking a Christmas tree)? Thanks for your help!

Love,
The Old Lady

  1. Honestly, the older I have gotten the less I like alcohol. That probably makes me lame...but I have only drank once in the last 8 months and I feel like it was one of my least fun nights.

  2. I do vodka water and a little mio for that exact same reason. No more headaches :)

  3. Stoli Vanilla Vodka and Ginger ale! I don't drink often (like less than once a year) but when I do this is my go to drink. It tastes like a cream soda!

  4. I feel you on the sugary drinks, but I can't drink them anymore because they give me a headache before I even go to sleep. Last 4th of July we got the fruit Smirnoffs and I had 3 then had to chug like 3 bottles of water with ibuprofen to get rid of the splitting headache.

I'm a wine or beer girl but I avoid the headaches by always doing a 1 to 1 ratio of water and alcohol.

  5. I'd never thought about sugar being (part of) the culprit for my hangovers. I think I'll stick non-sugary alcoholic drinks too. Hangovers are the worst. And you're younger than me so no worries :-P

  6. Yuck I don't like gin either for that same reason! If I want lo-cal but sweet I'll have vodka with crystal light (either a flavored tea or pink lemonade). I've found that I can't do sugary strong drinks anymore and I love wine more than anything!

  8. I don't know what I'd do without my fruity drinks! I wish I had something more insightful to contribute to this discussion, but I'm still young and they don't get to me yet. Maybe hard ciders? They never give me a headache.

  10. I've always been like that with sugary fruity drinks! Whiskey is my favorite but it's not a typical girl drink. Try sprite and vodka with just a splash of cranberry juice!

  11. I drink all the sweet drinks so I am no help! But, I do like lemony-gingery drinks which tend to be made with gin. I usually don't like gin, but with those flavors, I do. If you are out and a friend orders one, steal a sip and tell me what you think!
