This is NOT Nutcrackin'

As promised (back in October in my This is Not Apple Pickin post), I am finally getting around to telling all of you this story. So you all know my 15-year old sister Taylor by now, right? Well Taylor has always loved acting (I talked about one of the many, many plays she's been in here), so when she was 4 years old my mom decided to take her to a community college theater to see a production of The Nutcracker.

Taylor was all excited as they took their seats and the play started. A few minutes into the play, Taylor turned and whispered to my Mom, "This is not nutcrackin'." My Mom assured her,"yes, this is the Nutcracker, shhh."

A few minutes later, a panicked Taylor poked my Mom and said, a little more loudly, "MOM, this is not nutcrackin'." "Yes it is!" my Mom answered.

"MOM, MOM, THIS IS NOT NUTCRACKIN' THIS IS NOT NUTCRACKIN'!!" Taylor yelled. My Mom dragged her out of the theater and asked her what the heck was going on. Taylor adamantly explained that this is NOT nutcrackin'. Apparently, she thought they were going to watch a bunch of people up on stage cracking nuts, not Clara dancing around with the Sugar Plum Fairies. My Mom tried to tell Taylor that it would not be fun to simply watch people cracking nuts, explained the concept of the play, then took her back in (to a seat near the back this time) and dealt with constant whispers from Taylor the rest of the play of "This is NOT nutcrackin'."

Now in our family whenever something isn't what we expected, we simply say "This is not nutcrackin'!!" Also, Taylor was Clara in a major production of The Nutcracker 3 years ago, and it was all I could do during the shows I went to not to stand up and yell "THIS IS NOT NUTCRACKIN'!!"

  1. Hahahaha I would have had to leave in order not to stand up and yell that. The urge would have just been to strong. :)

    Have a great weekend!

Coincidentally, I was in The Nutcracker for four years with my ballet school. I was a soldier every time. Boo haha

  8. Hahaha that is fantastic! My family says "aww, no more bacon" whenever we're disappointed about something. Unfortunately, I'm the butt of that joke. It's a little less funny when you're the reason for the joke haha
