Basically, I used to be skinny up until about 4 years ago. Like 5'5, 130 pounds skinny, which for me was itsy bitsy teeny weeny. But of course I thought I was ginormous and always whined about my weight.
I've dieted here and there with the most I've lost at a time being 17 pounds (that was this summer while I was studying for the bar). I've gained 12 pounds of that back, so I'd say it's actually time for a.. dun dun dun.. lifestyle change. Yup, it's time to stop dieting and instead change the way I eat all together. I've already cut back on the amount of diet soda I drink (except I can't cut out ginger ale, it settles my stomach). I'm going to pretty much cut out added sugar except for special treats every once in awhile (let's be real, I could never cut it out altogether). I'm going to eat less carbs, more protein and veggies, and Brian and I are going to limit ourselves to eating out at most once a week. I am going to get back on track with my calorie counting app and exercise at least 3-4 times a week to start. I know it's a tough time of year but there's no time like the present to get healthy.
Tomorrow is actually my first day of work (eek! I'm nervous), but I think being on a set schedule will help. I'm not as hungry when I'm busy (I'm a bored-eater) and packing healthy lunches will really help. I already drink a ton of water, and I just bought a new filtered Camelbak for work so I can drink lots of water there too.
Whew, I can't believe I actually put this out there for the world to read, but I think it will definitely help with my accountability. If I post on twitter or instagram about my journey, I will use the hashtag #itsybitsyteenyweeny in case you're interested in following along, because I want to get back to being itsy bitsy teeny weeny. I don't think I will post every single week about my progress, but who knows? Definitely check back for updates though, because I promise I will do them! Any tips for me as I start this weight-loss journey are much appreciated!
P.S. Inspired by Ashton, Brian and I are doing a contest to see who loses the most weight percentage-wise in 6 weeks. If I win, we are seeing Matilda on Broadway. If he wins, we are going to a Devils game. But please, I am SO going to win ;-)
Good for you girl! As they say it only takes 21 days to form a habit. In my experience it only take 21 days to realize how much better you feel putting in the effort so you stick with it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love that you're making it a competition. Great way to stay motivated!
Good luck girl! I know you'll succeed because you're motivated (hence how you survived law school AND the Bar!)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on needing the lifestyle change and not just a diet. I definitely need to start bringing my lunch to work every day instead of buying out. One day at a time :) Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI COMPLETELY AGREE with the term "lifestyle change." I was my heaviest about a year and a half ago. I changed my eating habits slowly and did things I knew I'd be able to maintain. It took about 6 months but I shed 25 pounds and I've been able to KEEP it off. You can do this!
ReplyDeleteI'm so terrible about eating when I'm bored! I munch all the time at work because I just get so bored! It's definitely something I need to get a handle on!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it!! Excited to follow your progress :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a boredom eater too. I've learned to drink water first to see if it's real hunger or just boredom. Good luck on your goal. Having a little friendly competition is usually a pretty good motivator.
ReplyDeleteThis is my story to a T. About three years ago, I gained 15 lbs that I just can't shed. I have been trying to go to the gym more, but without changing my eating habits, it's nearly impossible to lose anything. For me, trying this time of year is a losing battle but come January, I think it's time to get serious. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! You're going to do great! And to have someone by your side makes it more fun and easier to do! :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bored eater too, if I'm busy at work then I'm not eating! I think that is why the weekends are so tough! Good luck girlfriend!!! We are all behind you!
ReplyDeleteahhh good luck! making changes is definitely hard but sounds like you have a great plan. so now just go kick some ass :)

Matilda is on Broadway?! I hope you win! Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your first day of work! And good luck on your healthy lifestyle goals. You can do it :-)
ReplyDeleteI am totally a bored eater, too. I refuse to have snacks or extra food at work because if we get slow I will just sit there and eat. Blah. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you!!! I think you are beautiful either way but I'm proud of you for realizing it's a lifestyle change and not just a diet.
ReplyDeleteyou can do it!! i used to be skinny but then i lost all will power after i got married. i need to get it together!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck girl!!!
ReplyDeleteJessica, you can do anything you set your mind to! Good luck on your new endeavor, and just remember, you are beautiful no matter what!
ReplyDeleteHope your first day of work is going well! :) Looking forward to hearing about it.
I think you are amazing, fabulous, beautiful, and hilarious! Good luck, girl! :)
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, let me just say that you don't look majorly overweight {even if you feel like you are}, and you are a GORGEOUS girl! Since you say that you "bored eat", you should realize that you probably are missing out on some nutrient. I wasn't getting enough protein AND I was eating processed stuff, so I felt like I could never stop eating. Now that I eat more meat, drink protein shakes, and limit processed foods, it's much easier to eat when I need to vs. out of boredom. Good luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteFound you through Lauren's blog! This is me tooooo. Ugh. I eat when bored. Or stressed. I just got weighed at the Dr. today and I'm appalled! Can't wait to keep up with your journey! I'm always up for new tips. :)
