How I Know I'm Getting Old

So I spent the weekend feeling pretty crappy with some sort of flu thing. So instead of recapping my boring weekend, I have something else to say: I'm getting old. Wanna know how I know? Welp, at the ripe old age of 25, I can't drink sugary drinks anymore. Nope, no more multiple Strawberry-Mango Margaritas, Sangrias, or Malibu Baybreezes, because if I have 2 or more, BAM! headache until like 3pm the next day. I'm not kidding. And I am completely thrown for a loop because I never ever ever used to get headaches or hangovers even if I had five lots of sugary, fruity drinks. I don't drink very often or to excess, but boo, this stinks (it's probably for the best though because fruity drinks=LOTS of calories).

I want this!

I think I need to change my ways and so I need your help. What are your favorite low sugar drinks that still taste good (no gin please, that ish is like drinking a Christmas tree)? Thanks for your help!

Love,
The Old Lady

Wise Words of the Week

So I made it one of my goals this month to come up with a blog series, and by gosh, I did it. As long as I can remember, I have always loved reading. Along with a love of reading comes a love a words. Though I may not use the most eloquent words on my blog, and in my career my writing is significantly different than how I normally talk or write, almost everyday I hear or read something memorable, whether it is something funny, ironic, annoying, whatever. Words are very powerful, obviously, and they can make us laugh, cry, think hard, or can go in one ear and out the other. So one Saturday after I heard my mom say something hilarious, my blog series idea was born.

Each Friday, starting next week, I am going to share my favorite quotes from the week. They could be words I said, words Brian said, words my family said, or words I read online or heard in the news. They could even be something you said! Feel free to email me any funny, ironic, earth-shattering, or in anyway significant words that you come across, and they may end up on the blog! Have a great weekend (and use FROSTY for $1 off all ads til midnight tonight!) Linking up with Whitney!

Working Girl Lessons

So today it has officially been one month since I started full-time, post-school, working life. I know I know, what do I reallyyyyy know about the real world yet? Well, let's see...

... I know that staring at a computer screen while in a room lit by florescent lights gives me migraines. Time to invest in some lamps.

... I know how fast evenings (and weekends) go. I feel like all I have time for at night is eating and sleeping before it's time to go back to work.

... I know that I miss my puppies during the day. They are doing pretty well with the change of me being gone all day now, I am so proud of how well they've adjusted to the new routine. They are extra snuggly at night now, too!

... I know how much it hurts making student loan payments. Owwwwww.

... I know that Google is the best tool ever invented. Enough said.

... I know that I am lucky to have an awesome job in this tough job market, lucky to have a steady paycheck, and lucky to live in a country and era that allows women to have professional jobs.

What do you know about the real world? P.S. Use code FROSTY for $1 off all ads now thru Friday night! Stock up, that means they're only $2 and $4 a pop! Keep warm, I know my hands pretty much feel like ice, thank goodness I'm not a doctor or nurse! haha

Buck Tooth Beaver

Alright guys, I have another funny Taylor story. When Taylor was younger she was the sweetest little thing (what happened?), always paying everyone a compliment. Well my sister Savanna had some friends over one day, and 5 year old Taylor was hanging around them thinking she was one of the group. As my mom walks in the room, this is what she hears Taylor say to Savanna's friend:

"You look just like a buck-toothed beaver, with your two front teeth sticking out like that!"

My mom rushes in, sees the little girl's face fall, and tries some quick smooth talking "oh Taylor, that's so sweet. Molly, Taylor just LOVESSSS beavers, she thinks they are the cutest ever, so she just thinks you're cute! Beavers are actually nice animals with beautiful teeth..." Uhh, nice cover-up, Mom? See Taylor didn't realize buck tooth beaver was not really a nice name to call someone, and truly thought she was just stating the obvious, hahaha! Just another story to add to our family's list of quotable moments.

Dog Carrying (& Mops)

Okay this week is going to be so hard. The first full week of work in like 3 weeks ahhh! Anyways, the title of the post is so random because after I realized what I wrote about that was my summary haha

Friday night Brian and I went to Aroogas and I kicked some butt at trivia (okay, we each beat each other once). Saturday we went to see Frozen finally but it was SOLD OUT wahhh! Saturday night the Devils and Sabres were playing each other and my friend's husband and Brian like those teams so it was perfect, except she bailed because her other friend needed to use her washing machine? What-to-the-ever.

So instead my dad and I tried to take the dogs on the walk but the salt and snow was bothering them. They started whimpering and wouldn't walk anymore so we had to carry them all the way back and it was hilarious. Seriously, I could not stop laughing because we probably looked so ridiculous! Then Brian and I decided to go out to dinner again. Sunday was a relaxing, watch football (Brian), and lay around (me) day. Also, the Bachelor, Revenge, The Good Wife, and Betrayal are back!

My least favorite part of the weekend was cleaning. Seriously, who invented that ish because I hate it. It is always a big production. When I was in my first two years of law school and my apartment was teeny tiny I cleaned wayyy more often than I do now, which is not good probably. I clean the kitchen counters pretty much everyday, and the bathrooms get completely done at least twice a month (is that bad? oh well), but what I hate is vacuuming. Thank goodness Brian does it instead. I'll stick my arm down any toilet and scrub away, but put a vacuum in my hands and I'm like dude, no.

I was like "I know you don't expect me to actually use this thing"

Also, does anyone mop anymore? If so, me too. I'm lying, but now I'll be honest- the last time I legit mopped the kitchen floor was after my finals in my second to last semester of law school.. which was over a year ago. Swiffers with wet pads do the same thing, right? Thought so.

Not really sure how this post turned into one about cleaning, but if you want to come clean my house (especially mop my floors, or buy me one of those new cool mopping Roomba things) I will love you forever! haha Have a great Monday people :-)

Itsy Bitsy Oops

So I fell off the wagon, the wagon turned around the corner, I rolled down the street, and the wagon was long gone. So much for Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny. But it's okay, I found the wagon and I'm climbing back on it again (I may have just taken that analogy a little too far, oops). I did pretty well with food in the weeks leading up to Christmas, but then Christmas Eve came and all was lost. Between the fact that it's a new month and new year with no "eating" holidays for a few months, and the fact that I am finally starting to get into a routine with work and meals and everything, I really think I can get my bad food habits under control and start exercising more. I ordered this bike off Amazon and I love it so far. It folds up so we can put it away, but we actually just leave it out. I plan on using it for at least 30 minutes 4-5x per week while watching TV or reading (it's pretty quiet so that's awesome). Also, have any of you done the Advocare 10-day herbal cleanse? I've heard good things about it, but it makes me nervous a little because I had gastritis for like 3 months. Is it rough on your stomach? Did you have any other symptoms?

I have to tell you a story though. A few weeks ago my mom and I were grocery shopping. She was looking at hams and I was standing with the cart, when I hear "damnnnn" and then a few seconds later, a whistle. I look up disgustedly, and there is a man staring hard at my butt. I look over at my mom (who has no idea as she is thoroughly engrossed in finding the biggest ham haha), and look down at my feet. When I look back up, this man is literally walking around my general vicinity staring at me/my butt. At one point he got within a few feet of me. I stood frozen and shocked, and finally called to my mom that we need to leave.

While it doesn't sound like much, it was mortifying. I am going to lose weight (especially off my butt!!) if it is the last thing I do! Linking up with Sarah. P.S. I set up my ad store with Passionfruit this weekend and I have 2 swap spots and 1 Silver spot left!!

January Goals

So there's currently 8 inches of snow on the ground, it's 7 degrees but with the wind at 35mph the wind chill makes it feel like -9, and the snow is blowing all over the place. My dogs are not pleased and are currently wrapped up in blankets while I get ready for work. Boy, do I love driving in this stuff (can you sense the sarcasm?) Anyways, I cannot believe it is already January 2014, this is just crazy! I feel like I just wrote up my December Goals. Anyways, let's see how I did last month:

1) Send out Christmas cards. Woop! This is one goal I can say I 100% accomplished, oh yea!

2) Workout 4x per week. Umm oops. If I got in 1 workout per week during the whole month of December than I was lucky. I was SO busy, and then by the time I get home from work I was seriously wiped out and all I wanted to do is lay around, but that has to change.

3) Not give in to the holiday binge-eating habit. Well, I will give myself a 50% on this one. I did pretty well most of the month (I even refrained from having birthday cake on Savanna's birthday) but then Christmas Eve through New Years I kinda let loose.

Okay, new year, new goals, new attitude. Just kidding, some of the same goals and I really haven't changed my attitude, but I am going to meet all three of my goals this month, I really am I swear!

January Goals

One. Workout at least 3x per week. This goes along with my weight loss journey (I will be posting an update this weekend, btw). You gotta workout to lose weight, so let's do this. I ordered a recumbent exercise bike off Amazon and I've already started using it woop woop.

Two. Come up with a weekly series for my blog. I already know what I want to do, I just need it iron out the details!

Three. Stick to a budget. My student loan payments have all been coming due and I owe SO MUCH MONEY (thanks law school). I literally can't look at it without getting sick to my stomach/teary-eyed, so Brian has all these spreadsheets made up for me. I have to cut down my spending; sticking to the budget will really make a difference. P.S. if you want to see pretty much how I feel about student loan payments, check out this funny but oh-so-true post of Elizabeth's.

What are your goals for this month? Linking up with Erica and Whitney. Have a great weekend!
